Planning Your Website
There are a number of questions you
will need to consider as you plan your web site.
What is the purpose of your site?
The first thing to decide in designing a web site
is what you want the web site to accomplish for you.
If you are planning to use the site to promote your
business, you need to consider how you will promote
the site. It is not necessarily true that if you build
it they will come. There are literally millions of sites
on the web, and if you want your potential customers
to visit your site you must advertise the site. Listing
your site with the search engines is important, but
you will also want to put your web site address on your
business cards and letter head and in other advertising.
What information do you want to
present? The next thing is to consider what information
you want to present to your visitors. You want your
site to be interesting. You want it to change from time
to time so that people will continue to visit your site.
If you are using your site to promote your business,
you want your visitors to either call or email you for
additional information and hopefully a sale so you will
want to include a feedback form.
Designing the site. Once you
have determined the purpose of your site and what information
you want it to present, we can begin to design the site
itself. Web sites come in all sizes, from a one page
site to a site with many pages. The size of your site
will depend on both the purpose of the site and your
budget. You can start with a small site and allow it
to grow as your business grows.
